Homecoming is usually less formal than prom, so a suit is the safe pick. A tux works if your school makes a big deal of the dance or your whole group is going all in, but for most guys a well-fitted suit in a good color does the job. Choosing a color
Black, navy and gray are the easy answers, and you'll get more wear out of them at weddings, interviews and next year's prom. If you want the photos to pop, go bolder. Getting the fit right
Fit matters more than price. The jacket shoulders should sit flat, the sleeves should show about half an inch of shirt cuff, and the pants should just touch the tops of your shoes. Do I need a tux for homecoming?
No. A suit is the norm at most schools. Save the tux for prom unless the invite says black tie.
Should I buy or rent?
If you'll wear it again this year, buying is usually the better value. For one night only, you can rent a suit or tux instead.
